What is an uninterruptible power supply?

An uninterruptible power supply, or UPS, is used to provide backup power and safeguard electrical equipment during power outages. Moreover, they may regulate and protect connected equipment from abnormal voltages.

Certain UPS systems can also regulate and safeguard connected equipment against aberrant voltages. The primary functions of UPS systems are to provide battery backup power and to safeguard equipment from power spikes and line noise interference.
